February 2024 Dividend Income Update

I finally took my first flight since the pandemic started. It was a nice little break from the monotony of working from home daily. Two things stood out the most. The first is that US/Canada customs was more efficient. The second is that I was hyper-conscious of all of the coughing and sneezing in the airport and the airplane. I don’t recall there being as many sick people on a plane in the past.

I was able to use my new Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite card. The exchange rate was very good. Although the card comes with 6 complimentary lounge visits per year, I didn’t use it this time since the airport lounge was small and packed. I also used my EQ Bank Card this month. The exchange rate was not as good as the Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite card. I’m also waiting on the 0.5% cash back.

In February, I received a total of $3,516 in dividends and interest. I earned a cumulative passive income of $9,419 year to date. For comparison, I earned a cumulative passive income of $4,513 this time last year. At the end of 2023, I earned $46,079 in passive income. Of the dividends received this month, $3,192 was available to withdraw without penalty.

As a reminder, I convert any USD amount to CAD using the month-end exchange rate published by the Bank of Canada. For February 2024, I used an exchange rate of 1.3570.
