May 2023 Dividend Income Update
It has been 3 years since I started blogging about dividends. I signed up for a 3-year contract with a WordPress hosting provider. But like many of these providers and many domain registrars, the first year’s fees were low but increased over time. It shouldn’t cost this much to build a static website that has a few posts per month and receives little traffic. I did some research and found that there were numerous platforms and websites that I can use to build static websites for free. I also found low-cost domain registrars. So here we are with a new website!
In May, I received a total of $2,310 in dividends and interest. I earned a cumulative passive income of $13,682 this year. For comparison, I earned a cumulative passive income of $9,790 this time last year. At the end of 2022, I earned $31,566 in passive income. Of the dividends received this month, $2,005 was earned in my taxable account.
As a reminder, I convert any USD amount to CAD using the month-end exchange rate published by the Bank of Canada. For May 2023, I used an exchange rate of 1.3603.
